Accommodation

There are countless styles of safari options, with a wide variety of different accommodations options in every country.

Aardvark has detailed, in-depth knowledge of the properties available, and can arrange for you to stay in luxury lodges with spa rooms and swimming pools, or remote mobile camps in the heart of the bush. Private mobile tented camps, classic tented luxury outposts, and even private houses can be arranged to suit your needs. Few of the properties we deal with in Africa are large: our favorites usually cater for eight to 20 people at any one time.

We take the time to talk through your requirements and tastes. Whether traveling alone, with your partner, or as a family, we have the specialist knowledge to find the most appropriate lodges and camps. With Aardvark Safaris your African experience will exceed your expectations.

Lodge
Most lodges have permanent walls built of stone or wood, with roofs generally thatched. Adjoining bathrooms are almost always provided, with hot and cold water at any time. Many properties can provide connecting rooms or cottages suitable for families, and there is likely to be a separate bar and dining area, swimming pool and reading room with plenty of wildlife books.

Tented Safari Camp
African safari tents are spacious: larger than many hotel rooms. You'll almost always find free-standing beds, proper furniture and adjoining facilities with flush toilets - though sometimes the hot water will be heated specially for your shower. Only the most remote camps still rely on long-drop toilets and bucket showers - though this is often an important part of experiencing an authentic safari. The food is always superb and dining is usually communal. Some tented camps even have their own swimming pools, perfect for cooling down through the midday heat.

Mobile Tented Camp
To experience Africa at its most authentic and wild, it is hard to beat a mobile tented safari. Your camp will be established in a spectacular setting, with the exact position dependent on local conditions: it might be on the banks of a river or nestling amongst the boulders of a panoramic kopje. Most tents are classic East African safari tents, spacious and comfortable, while for some remote areas and walking safaris simple dome tents are used. In most mobile tented camps water is by bowl, showers by bucket, and toilets are short-drop, but dining is spectacular: just you and your guide under a blanket of stars.

Bush Camp
These seasonal versions of a tented safari camp might well be taken down for the rains and re-assembled when floods have re-written the local map. Some are of timber though canvas tents are more common. Adjoining bathrooms are usually provided, though toilets are usually long-drop and showers by bucket - with water heated on demand.

Private Home
Across South Africa, Zambia and Kenya there are a number of private properties that can be rented for families or groups of friends. Often in spectacular settings, these are tastefully and comfortably furnished with comfortable sitting and dining areas, as well as large bedrooms with adjoining facilities. Private pools and large gardens are looked after by a friendly resident staff, and usually you'll be provided with your own private guide and vehicle for the duration of your stay.
