African Horseback Safaris
Located in the vast wilderness of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, African Horseback Safaris offers riding safaris that are fast paced. Riding through the Delta’s wetlands and woodlands you will trot, canter and gallop possibly alongside zebra, giraffe or buffalo. While taking in the stunning open scenery this riding experience offers a great opportunity to see game at close range. Non-riders are as welcome as riders and there are plenty of activities to keep equiphobes happy such as game drives, boat trips, walking and fishing. Non-riding guests meet up with the riders for all meals and can join them on the occasional ride or have a guided game drive to the same location. While shorter days can be arranged, African Horseback Safaris offer seven or ten day safaris. Each day you can expect to be in the saddle for between four and seven hours consisting of morning rides, long lunch breaks with a siesta and then back out to catch the early evening. There are over 40 horses to choose from including thoroughbreds, Namibian hanovarians, Arabs and Kalahari-Arab crosses and is operated by experienced horseman and owner John Sobey who is based in camp with his family. The horses range in size between 14hh and 16.2 hh and are well trained suited for competent riders that are 12 years and above. Accommodation at this camp is suitable for a maximum of 8 riders, and is in a classic tented style. The tents are large and spacious featuring a verandah overlooking the flood plains, twin beds and adjoining facilities. There is a central large furnished dining tent, and within the trees there is a small pool. African Horseback Safaris horses are beautifully mannered and immaculately cared for. Each rider will be paired with a horse that matches their personality. Longer safaris offer the experience and the thrill of riding out to a mobile fly-camp.
