Ride and Walk (RAW) Botswana are based on the Beautiful Selinda Spillway in the Selinda Reserve, of Northern Botswana. The spillway is an ancient watercourse linking the Okavango Delta to the Kwando-Linyanti flood plains and in 2009 it flooded for the first time in 30 years, connecting these two great flood plains. RAW’s personalised walking and riding safaris are based at Motswiri Camp on the banks of the Spillway. While riding here you can enjoy the vast open plains of the Okavango delta to the immediate West and the riverine forest of the Spillway to the North and East, making this one of the most diverse and geographically interesting places to ride. RAW operates in a 120,000 acre private concession and is home to giraffe, zebra, tsessebe, lion, leopard, cheetah, the rare roan antelope, sable and wild dog. Many large herds of elephant and buffalo migrate through the reserve during the year and there are also fantastic birding opportunities as a result of the diverse vegetation.

The Riding
Motswiri Camp has a barn of 24 horses, ranging from Thoroughbreds to Boerperds, Arabs and Kalahari crosses, and sizes range from 14.2 – 16.1. All of the horses are well schooled, well fed and cared for, acclimatised to the area and to the game that you may encounter. Guests have a choice of English or trail saddles. Rides will not normally comprise more than six guests, and each ride is led by a guide and accompanied by a back up rider. Riders can expect to spend around 6 hours per day in the saddle and should be comfortable at all paces should they have to gallop out of trouble. RAW also offer other equine activities such as jumping and polo crosse. Guests can enjoy a wide range of non riding activities such as walking, fishing, makoro trips, boat trips or simply relaxing by the pool. Flexibility is key at Motswiri and guests can do as much or as little as they want, it is a fantastic place for groups and families, of both riders and non riders.

Accommodation & Facilities
Sited on the raised banks of the Spillway, the five guest tents are airy, spaced well apart and each has its own self-contained shower, loo, large decked veranda and can be configured for double bed or twin accommodation. The central mess area boasts a large, comfortable sitting area with separate dining area. It has wonderful views of the spillway and the wildlife that is attracted to it to drink. Guests return to camp each night after their day’s activities, however in the dry season fly camping is available when the water levels allow.
