African Horseback Safaris
African Horseback Safaris offers riding safaris throughout the vast wilderness of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The riding is fast paced where you trot, canter and gallop through the Delta’s wetlands and woodlands taking in the stunning scenery. This is open country with very good ground for riding alongside zebra, giraffe or buffalo offering a great opportunity to see game at close range.
There are over 30 horses to choose from including thoroughbreds, Namibian hanovarians, Arabs and Kalahari-Arab crosses. The horses are all well-schooled and range in size between 14hh and 16.2 hh and are suitable for competent riders of 16 years and above. African Horseback Safaris offer seven or ten day safaris, although shorter stays can be arranged. Expect to spend between four and seven hours in the saddle each day; riding in the morning, with a long lunch break and siesta and then back out again in the early evening.
Accommodation is in classic style tented camps, with large twin bedded tents, each with their own adjoining facilities, and spacious verandah with armchairs overlooking the flood plain. Centrally there is a large furnished dining tent. Tucked away in the trees is a small pool. Groups have a maximum of eight riders with horses that are immaculately cared for, beautifully mannered and each rider is matched to a horse with the right personality. On the longer safaris you have the opportunity to experience the thrill of riding out to a mobile fly-camp.
