Jack's Camp
Jack's Camp
is situated at the edge of the Makgadikgadi
National Park among a
cluster of desert palms. This destination offers a fascinating desert
experience; there are several animal species unique to this area of Botswana
including the brown hyena, springbok and gemsbok. There is also the fascinating
geology, archaeology and anthropology of the Kalahari and Makgadikgadi areas.
Accommodations
at Jack’s Camp are in ten spacious, classically styled tents with comfortable
canopy beds, private bucket showers, and flush toilets. There is an impressive
1940s style mess tent where breakfast and dinner are served and a separate tea
tent furnished with hundreds of cushions.
The
Makgadikgadi Pans are the remains of one of the world's largest super-lakes which
dried up several thousand years ago. In the dry season, guests at Jack’s Camp can
use 4x4 quad bikes to explore areas unsuitable for conventional vehicles. It is possible to visit the famous Seven
Sisters Baobab Tree, documented by the explorers Livingstone, Baines, and
Selous. In the wet season, guests can take wildlife drives to view the annual
wildebeest and zebra migration. Night drives are also available in the area.
Game walks with a knowledgeable bushman guide offer the opportunity to observe
the desert wildlife and migratory waterfowl feeding and breeding sites.
