Delta Dunes

Delta Dunes sits high up on the ridge of a sand dune on the Indian Ocean coast between Malindi and Lamu. The camp is built across the long line of sand dunes which shield the Tana Delta flood plain from the seawater, protecting Kenya's largest freshwater wetland area. This newly established conservation area has no development and is not crossed by any roads - it can only be explored by boat or on foot. This remote landscape is enhanced by the diverse array of open plains, coastal thickets, acacia and doum palm savannah, and mangrove swamps. The whole area is interspersed by the lazily flowing Tana River’s channels, ox-bow lakes and tidal creeks.

Accommodation & Facilities
The camp offers six charming, yet rustic reed and thatch cottages each different in their architecture and stunning driftwood furniture. The openness of the architecture, coupled with stunning locations boasting panoramic views make this an exceptional spot. Set far apart for total privacy, the rooms are connected to one another (and the top and bottom dining areas) by steep stone paths and steps threading through the dunes and bush. Spacious en-suite bathrooms offer al fresco showers open to the stars.  

Wildlife & Activities
Delta Dunes feels more like a safari camp than a beachfront location, but you can spend hours walking miles along the vast, empty beach without meeting anyone else. Other activities offered include day and night game drives, guided walks, creek fishing, boat trips into the nature reserve, swimming and sundowner cruises. Visits can be arranged to the local Pokomo village – a tribe well known for their singing and music and visits to the Orma people- pastoralists who live in tall conical thatched huts and follow the rains with their herds of cattle. The area is also a haven for both wetland and seabirds including waders, kingfishers and herons.
