Kiwayu
Kiwayu Safari Village is located on Kenya's Indian Ocean coast about 30 miles north of Lamu Island, in the Kiunga Marine Reserve. It has a breathtakingly beautiful setting nestled among the sand dunes on a quiet bay opposite Kiwayu Island.
Accommodation & Facilities
The 18 guest cottages are built among the star palms on the beach in "Bajuni" style with mangrove poles, palm thatch and floor matting. Each has a spacious bedroom and adjoining bathroom facilities with a veranda and panoramic views across the bay (complete with Lamu beds and hammock). There is a dining room, a lounge, and a bar area all built in the same traditional style. The availability of freshly caught seafood makes for first class dining.
Wildlife & Activities
The camp is set on a white coral sand beach which stretches for miles in all directions. Snorkeling, water-skiing, laser-sailing, wind-surfing, fishing, picnicking and exploration of the mangrove forests can be arranged. The camp has a sailing Jahazi or dhow where you can explore the Kiwayu archipelago of islands, sampling the ethnic Bajuni culture in this sparsely populated area. Deep sea fishing is available from Mid October to Mid April on the lodge's own boat. Both fly fishing and conventional fishing are also available.
