Offbeat Safaris are based in The Great Rift Valley and are well known for offering one of a kind riding safaris, often in remote wilderness areas. Many of the rides depart from Deloraine, a colonial home in the Rift Valley, and go as far as Laikipia and Masailand. Here in the less populated part of Kenya, you might not see a fencepost for over 200 miles. The open plains and rolling hills of the East African landscape are ideal for gallops and long canters. Viewing the African bush from horseback is a wonderful experience.  Your horse will help you notice things along the way; it's like having another pair of eyes and ears. Imagine the thrill of cantering alongside wildebeest or giraffe, just blending into the bush without any vehicles for miles around.

Offbeat Safaris' horses are thoroughbred or thoroughbred crosses and have been well trained; they have all been tried for polo and love to go on safari just as much as their riders. These horses are very responsive, have individual personalities and are fit enough to walk for miles; they also carry saddle bags containing picnic lunches. On riding days, guests usually travel about 20-30 miles, spending about 4-6 hours in the saddle (on rough terrain there may also be some walking). Guests should be good riders, used to rough terrain and comfortable at all paces. The rides are through big game country and you may come across potentially dangerous wildlife.

The overnight accommodations vary: at the Deloraine House you are part of the family with a house party atmosphere; on safari the accommodations are in traditional 10ft x 9ft green safari style canvas tents equipped with bucket showers, wash stands, and adjacent short drop toilets. As well as offering riding adventures, Offbeat Safaris also organize vehicle-based activities including night and day game drives and guided bush walks.
