Ol Donyo Wuas riding safaris operate in the beautiful Chyulu Hills and guide guests around the steeply wooded hills and open plains of the surrounding area. The pace of the rides varies, with opportunities for jumping logs and fallen trees, long canters on the open plains and some more adventurous hacking on the hillsides, all with the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. On the way you might encounter lion, elephant, buffalo, cheetah and leopard, as well as numerous herd animals which come down onto the plains when the grazing is at its best.

Overnight accommodations at the stopovers on a mobile riding safari are in safari tents which are attended by a full team of guides and staff, including a cook, waiter, and a groomer for the horses. The spacious tents are tall enough to stand up inside and have adjoining bathrooms with a shower and a short drop toilet; bed linen, soap and towels are provided. The camps are lit at night by lanterns and torches.  There is a dining tent for camp meals. The attentive staff will take care of pitching and striking camp, cooking, heating water and all the domestic chores. They also feed, groom and tack up the horses. At night the horses are tethered to a picket line strung between two to four trees. There is a guard on duty, watching out for inquisitive lions.

To participate in an Ol Donyo Wuas riding safari guests must to be comfortable at all paces and fit enough to be in the saddle for four to six hours a day. The days are usually divided into a morning ride followed by lunch at camp, and then a walk or perhaps a game drive in the evening. Sometimes the vehicle will meet guests with a picnic lunch and then the afternoon is spent riding to camp. The party size is limited to a maximum of six guests who are led by expert guides and horsemen with knowledge of the local terrain. You have a choice from about twenty horses of varying sizes, breeds and temperament, from thoroughbreds to Somali cross ponies.
