Rekero Camp
In the southern section of the Masai Mara is Rekero Camp, nestled in the beautiful setting of a riverine forest near the merge of the Talek and Mara rivers.. Some of the annual wildebeest and zebra migration river crossings are close to the camp, which is in a region offering some of the finest scenery and an abundance of big game; while still only a 45 minute flight from Nairobi. Rekero Camp is owned and run by the Beaton family and Jackson Ole Looseyia, with knowledge local Masai and Ndorobo guides. Their genuine hospitality and enthusiasm is what makes a stay here so special for both new visitors and their many returning guests. The tented camp, in the style of a smart mobile camp has seven large safari style tents set on the river banks. The tents have adjoining toilets and bucket showers and there is a canvas basin on the veranda; hot and cold water is always available. The camp has a communal dining tent, although most meals are enjoyed outdoors.
Most of the
wildlife viewing is from vehicles and the knowledge of the local guides at
Rekero Camp is so good that you are unlikely to encounter other tourists on
game drives. Outside the reserve, guests can enjoy walking safaris escorted by
experienced Masai guides. The location is ideal for big cat viewing and also
for the annual wildebeest and zebra migration between June and October. There
are large buffalo herds and various antelope in addition to leopard, cheetah,
hippo, giraffe and elephant.
