Sabuk
Sabuk is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River and the Laikipia plains towards the distant Mount Kenya; the camp is in a huge private area on the edge of Kenya's Northern Territories. The buildings blend in sympathetically with the landscape and the six rooms have individual personal touches to enhance their appeal. They are open sided stone and thatch buildings with adjoining bathrooms and a large veranda commanding spectacular views across the valley. The camp has a large dining area and bar, both with magnificent views. Also available is Eagle Cottage which has a separate two bedroom family cottage with a separate sitting room and private swimming pool.
Northern Kenya is not traditionally associated with big game, but
this area is home to elephant, leopard and buffalo. Activities available at
Sabuk include day and night vehicle based game drives, bush breakfasts, and
sundowners. Walking safaris with a local guide are a good way to explore the
flora and fauna of the area. You can plan your own time for the walk, maybe
finishing at lunchtime, leaving the warm African afternoon free for line-fishing,
swimming in the river or just relaxing by the pool. Longer group walks are
accompanied by a camp team of Laikipia Masai who know the area intimately. The
camp equipment is carried by camels, the traditional beasts of burden in this
area.
