Samatian Island
Samatian Island has unbeatable views across the bronze waters of Lake Baringo in the Great Rift Valley. The lake and its surroundings are famous for their beauty and the magnificent sunsets. It’s is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 450 species recorded. On the shores the Njemps fishermen carry on with a lifestyle little changed for over 200 years.
Accommodation & Facilities
Samatian can accommodate a maximum of ten guests in four comfortable and airy open plan cottages, one of which is a family cottage. Each has a superb view across the lake, a sitting area and private bathroom. The communal dining area has magnificent lake views across to the rugged Rift Valley scenery on the far shore. Your hosts are third generation Kenyans, Caro Roberts and Ross Withey.
Wildlife & Activities
Samatian Island guests can spend lazy afternoons around the swimming pool or take boat trips on Lake Baringo, exploring her shores and inhabitants, including hippo and crocodile. Locally you can visit hot springs with steaming pools, take lakeside walks, or visit the Njemps and Pokot communities. There are also day trips to the soda lakeBogoria to see the thousands of flamingos.
