Tortilis Camp
Tortilis is located just outside the Amboseli National Park, near the Tanzanian border and overlooked by the snow capped north face of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. This is one of Kenya’s most beautiful game parks and is wildlife rich, yet it is only a 45 minute flight from Nairobi. Tortilis is a luxury tented camp with a swimming pool and 17 large guest tents with adjoining bathrooms (including hot and cold running water) large comfortable beds, electric lighting, a large veranda and a cool thatched roof.
The
Amboseli swamps, formed from the Kilimanjaro run off water, are the place to
find much of the large elephant population for which Amboseli is famous. Tortilis
Camp organizes morning and afternoon game drives into the park to view the
elephants as well as zebra, buffalo and wildebeest; you may also spot some of
the predatory cats such as lion or cheetah. The
community area outside the park provides good walking safaris with a
local Masai who will point out much of local interest. For example, on a nature walk you will learn
about the medicinal uses of local plants,
and perhaps you will be shown how to make a toothbrush from a
freshly cut tree branch!
