Chelinda Lodge
With panoramic views over the rolling grasslands of the Nyika Plateau, Chelinda Lodge has one of the most magnificent settings in Africa. Located in the Nyika National Park in the far north of Malawi, the park has a wide range of habitats including woodlands, marsh, montane forest and huge tracts of rolling grassland. Set at a height of 2000m, the air is crisp and cool even in the summer months and the views are breathtaking.
Guests are accommodated in eight individual en-suite log cabins, each with its own log fire. The cabins surround the main dining area and are connected by raised wooden walkways.
Activities here include game drives, walks and fishing. Game includes roan, reedbuck, hyena, serval, jackal, leopard, zebra, bushpig, warthog and eland. For keen birders bar-tailed trogon, Denham's bustard and red-winged francolin are found here. Chelinda's special activity is horseback trails where comfortable tents are set up in the most remote areas of the park. Daily rides from the lodge can be arranged or guests can take riding itineraries of between seven and ten days to include several nights' fly camping.
