Benguerra Lodge
Benguerra Lodge is situated on Benguerra Island, in the Bazaruto Archipelago of islands just off Mozambique, close to its south eastern border with Southern Africa. Benguerra Island is approximately 11 kms by 5 kms, and was declared a National Park in 1971. There are three fresh water lakes, which host numerous birds as well as crocodile.
There are four different types of accommodation at the Lodge, four bungalows, two cabanas, ten casitas and one magnificent private villa. The two romantic and elegantly furnished cabanas have been built right on the edge of the beach. Each has an en-suite bathroom and an outdoor shower, overhead fans and private deck with plunge pool, hammocks and sun loungers. There are ten luxuriously appointed casitas which are decorated in a unique blend of safari chic and Arabic style. Each has a large bedroom, separate lounge area, overhead fan, en-suite bathroom and outdoor shower. The private decks have plunge pools and each casita has an outdoor dining gazebo for starlit dinners. Finally, there is the private Villa which is the epitome of exclusivity. The luxury furnishings and private facilities make it an ideal place for those wanting unsurpassed comfort and privacy, honeymooners and families. A personal chef prepares all meals at the Villa, although the main lodge's dining facilities are also available to Villa guests, if desired. There are two double bedrooms, ceiling fans, en-suite bathrooms, a lounge and dining area, private deck and swimming pool, private garden with beach access.
The facilities are completed by a lounge and dining room. The separate bar area has a large airy patio overlooking the beach and sea across lawns and trees where attractive red tailed squirrels play. The meals are fresh from the sea, with delicacies such as crayfish, crab and calamari.
At Benguerra most of the activities are water based. Both snorkelling and diving on the reef give you an opportunity to appreciate the sheer unspoilt beauty, combined with the variety and abundance of marine life. You can also sail to the deserted Pansy Island, sunbathe and picnic in seclusion, explore the birdlife along the tideline and the fresh water lakes or simply comb deserted beaches in solitude and serenity. A trip to the mainland can be organised, as can visits to the local market, to enjoy lunch and view the old harbour and the famous Donna Anna Hotel.
