Nkwichi Lodge
Nkwichi Lodge is situated on the shores of Lake Malawi right on the border with Mozambique, this is a private area with three miles of beaches, rocky shoreline, rivers, forest and pristine African bush. The lodge is in Mozambique but accessed through Malawi. The lodge was built by the staff and has been innovatively designed and constructed using a mixture of western style and traditional local methods in order to blend in with the natural environment. Accommodations at Nkwichi Lodge are in individual chalets with private bathrooms with showers hanging from the trees and baths set in the rocks. The chalets are well separated and set back from the shoreline; they are not visible from the lake and offer a sense of total privacy. Additional accommodations have recently been added at Nkwichi Lodge; Sonego House and chalet and Makolo House. Sonega House and Chalet has a circular reception room with a sunken sitting area and an upstairs bedroom, an outdoor dining area and a private, secluded beach. There is a separate open-fronted chalet just a short walk from the main house with accommodation for two guests. Makolo House has two bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms and an upstairs platform overlooking the lake. Both houses have a private chef and are just a ten minute walk from the main lodge. Guests in the houses can take full advantage of all the facilities at the main lodge. There are a wide range of activities on offer at Nkwichi Lodge including canoeing on the lake or local rivers, guided bush walks, trekking, bird-watching, snorkeling, kite flying, surfing and visits to local community projects. Wildlife viewing in the area is a favorite pastime, there is good bird-watching and smaller game is plentiful. Surrounding the superb white sandy beach the bush is wild and untouched, wild dog have occasionally been sighted here. Guests can choose to be wined and dined beside their own chalet, under the stars on the beach, or at any of the other romantic settings around the lodge.
