On Namibia’s Atlantic coast, The Pelican Bay Hotel sits overlooking the lagoon at Walvis Bay.

Accommodations are in 50 great rooms, all with adjoining bathrooms and connecting doors, looking out towards the sea. There is a comfortable lounge for snacks as well as a restaurant. Pelican Bay’s Presidential Suite has two bedrooms and a living area, making it ideal for families or a group of friends wanting something special.

Walvis Bay and Swakopmund aren’t classic seaside resorts, as the sea mist often rolls in during the mornings and there are easterly winds in the afternoons. There is plenty to keep visitors at Pelican Bay occupied, as there are a number of activities available. ATV excursions and lie-down or stand-up sand-boarding make use of the sand dunes inland. Boat, kayak and catamaran trips to view seal colonies on Pelican Point are available from Walvis Bay – sometimes dolphins can be seen there. The lagoon is wonderful for bird-watching, with large groups of pelicans, among others, visiting in the summer.
