The Stiltz

 

The Stiltz is situated on the outskirts of Swakopmund town, close to the wild Atlantic coastline.

Each of the nine minimalist and elegantly furnished thatched bungalows have adjoining bathrooms, and are built on stilts and with fantastic views from the balcony of either the Atlantic Ocean, the dunes inland or the Swakopmund River mouth. The lodge also has a large breakfast room with large windows looking towards the sea.

With sea mist rolling in on many mornings and then east winds in the afternoon, Swakopmund isn’t a classic beachside resort. However a stay of a couple of nights is ideal, as a number of activities are available either in Swakopmund or nearby Walvis Bay. Quad bike excursions take you inland into the dune landscape, whilst lie-down or stand-up sandboarding makes use of the dunes’ relationship with gravity. From Walvis Bay boat, catamaran and kayak trips are available to see the seal colonies on Pelican Point, where dolphins are also sometimes seen. The lagoon is a great place for sea birds with large numbers of pelicans, among others, present in the summer months.
