Bird Island
Bird Island is best known for the one and a half million sooty terns, which nest here from May to October. It is a coral island, around 60 miles from Mahé and is the most northerly of the Seychelles archipelago. This is a beautiful, private island, completely surrounded by unspoiled white beaches. There are 24 spacious wooden bungalows on Bird Island. All have a four poster bed and a private veranda with views out towards the ocean. As well as the sooty terns, Bird Island also has populations of noddy and fairy terns, ground doves, cardinals, crested terns, plovers and minahs. Another attraction is Esmerelda, thought to be the oldest and heaviest living tortoise in the world.
