Grootbos Riding
Grootbos is a year round lodge located in a coastal reserve with 2,500 acres of indigenous bush, and sweeping views of Walker Bay. Guests can ride along the sandy beaches and up nearby up hills, or explore the immediate area by bicycle, on foot or by boat. This area is well known for good sightings of the whales, sharks, seals and dolphins as well as small antelope and over 1000 species of indigenous flora.
There are about 17 Boerperd horses here, ranging from small ponies to 15.3 hh. They are all highly schooled and very calm, catering for all abilities. Seven years is the minimum age for outrides, though younger children are able to take part in pony rides. Expect to spend no more than two hours in the saddle, though it is very relaxed and would suit any ability.
Grootbos’ two lodges provide comfortable accommodation in well appointed cottages which are set amongst ancient milkwood trees. Each cottage has been built from locally hewn stone and timber and has an en-suite bathroom. From the bar, guests can view picturesque sunsets across Walker Bay. The restaurant specialises in seafood, complemented by homegrown produce.
