South African Horseback Safaris operates in one of the largest provincial game reserves in South Africa, close to the world famous Kruger National Park. There are two different riding safaris you can join here, either lodge based riding or seven day set departure trips leaving at scheduled dates throughout the year.  The lodge based riding is through open plains and rolling hills whilst the set departure trips include steep climbs and descents, crossing rivers and tricky rocky terrains, with the opportunity for a relatively fast pace across the open plains.

The 30 well schooled horses include South African Boerperd, South African warmblood and crosses, ranging from 14hh to 17.2 hh. Guests should expect to spend between four and six fast hours in the saddle each day with plenty of opportunity to view rhino, buffalo and giraffe as well as many other species of other wildlife.  Accommodation on the seven day set departures includes a night at Dawson’s Game and Trout Lodge, several nights in simple dome tents and a night in a traditional African village.

If a more relaxed riding style is required then Dawson’s Lodge would be a good choice, and non-riders are also welcome here.  The riding and speed can be set to suit any ability and there is a variety of other activities on offer as well, including guided game drives and walks, fishing, bird watching, scenic forest and waterfall walks or simply swimming in the pool.
