Fugitives' Drift Lodge
Fugitives' Drift Lodge is located between Johannesburg and Durban on a large private reserve close to the famous Rorke's Drift in KwaZulu Natal. The lodge is beautifully situated on a hillside above the Buffalo River Gorge and has 10 miles of river frontage. The Rattray family, who are your hosts at the lodge, look forward to welcoming you to this special destination. The accommodations are in spacious, private cottages with adjoining bathrooms and private verandas from which there are lovely views over the plains across the Buffalo River. The main building contains many Boer War artifacts and is like a mini-museum. The food is excellent and the dining experience is enhanced by the splendid historical atmosphere. The diverse and abundant wildlife in the area around Fugitives' Drift Lodge includes zebra, giraffe, kudu, hartebeest and many smaller antelope, as well as numerous bird species. There are many good walks in the Buffalo Gorge area but, Fugitives' Drift is best known for its battlefield tours to the Zulu War and Anglo-Boer War sites in the region. All the tour guides make history come alive with their superb story-telling.
