Hluhluwe River Lodge
Hluhluwe River Lodge is set on the Western shore of the 25 mile St. Lucia Lake, in the St Lucia Wetland Park. This World Heritage Site is bordered to the east by the Indian Ocean. The accommodations are in thatched chalets, elevated on stilts and dotted throughout the grounds of the lodge, and the views from the private verandas are either of the surrounding bush or of the lake. All the rooms have private bathrooms with good showers; the "honeymoon" chalets also have a freestanding bath. The main building houses the comfortable lounge and restaurant which overlook the lake. There is a swimming pool in a quiet area of the well maintained gardens. Game activities on offer at Hluhluwe River Lodge are either based around the lake or the nearby Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park, which is renowned for its white rhino population. The resident guides at the lodge can take guests out by boat or in open-top wildlife viewing vehicles. St Lucia Lake is stunning at sunrise and sunset and the bird-watching is magnificent.
