Hluhluwe River Lodge is on the Western shore of the 40km long St Lucia Lake in South Africa. The Lake is part of the St Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site, bordered on its eastern side by the Indian Ocean.
The lodge has a main building with a restaurant and lounge, which overlook the lake. The thatched chalets are lifted off the ground on stilts and spread throughout the grounds. Some enjoy views of the lake from the verandah but others look into the surrounding bush. All rooms are en-suite with good showers with the 'honeymoon' chalets having freestanding baths. The lodge also has a pool, tucked away from the rooms and the main building in a quiet area of the gardens.
Game activities are based around the lake or the nearby Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park, which is especially renowned for its white rhino. The lodge has resident guides to take people out by boat or in open top game viewing vehicles. The lake is stunning at sunrise or sunset and has magnificent birdlife.
