Kwandwe
Kwandwe Private Game Reserve has 62,000 acres of bush near to Grahamstown in the malaria-free Eastern Cape region, and with four choices of accommodations it is a fantastic place to conclude a journey along the spectacular Garden Route. Kwandwe's Great Fish River Lodge is perched above the steep banks of the Great Fish River and offers wonderful views of the untamed rolling South African landscape. There are nine thatched suites with adjoining bathrooms and large verandas for relaxing. The central area has a main lounge, dining area, and a plunge pool to cool off on hot summer afternoons Kwandwe Ecca Lodge has just six suites with adjoining bathrooms and large sitting rooms which can be used for children's accommodation. The lodge is decorated in a modern style, with its mesh and stone gabion walls. There is a dining and lounge area and a lap pool. There are also two private houses in the Kwandwe Reserve, Melton Manor and Uplands Homestead, each of which is taken on an exclusive use basis and which come with their own vehicle and guide. Melton Manor sleeps eight in four rooms, while Uplands Homestead has three bedrooms and sleeps six. Both have pools and would be idea for a family safari or a group of friends. Day and night game drives and wildlife walks are available at Kwandwe; there is also canoeing and fishing on the river. Predators are often sighted around the lodges, as are rhino and, unusually (in the winter months), aardvark.
