Luxury Train Journeys  
Travelers looking for a luxury train journey in South Africa have a choice between two operators. The Blue Train offers a choice of four routes across the varied landscapes of South Africa. Rovos Rail has several longer distance routes throughout Southern Africa as far north as Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania; some of their routes are hauled by steam engines. The Cape Town to Pretoria route is the most popular; and there is the option of a one or two night journey in either direction. These luxury train journeys combine the comfort and luxury of a five star hotel with an unforgettable journey across glorious landscapes. Both trains accommodate a maximum of 76 passengers in superbly-fitted and decorated suites which become luxurious bedrooms at night; the suites all have private bathrooms with either a bath or shower. Guests can watch the countryside rolling by from the comfort of their suite or make use of the comfortable lounge and observation cars. Fine dining is a feature of the journey and imaginative a la carte menus are served in the elegant dining car.
