Mdonya Old River Camp

Mdonya Old River Camp, located in the north western corner of Ruaha National Park lies beside the old course of the Mdonya River, just a few miles from the Mdonya Falls.  Although Ruaha is a less well known reserve, it has a wealth of game to view, with over 480 species of birds recorded and large numbers of giraffe, elephant, and buffalo.

Guest accommodations are in 11 large, well-appointed tents separated along the course of the river. The tents are simply furnished with a double or twin bed and a private bathroom with an open air shower and flush toilet. The tents are lit by candles since there is no electricity supply to the tents; this gives the camp an authentic safari atmosphere. The lounge and dining tents overlook the dry riverbed in the shade of large sycamore fig trees. Guests can relax and enjoy game viewing from here, watching the wildlife using the riverbed as a game trail.

As well as the in-camp viewing Mdonya Old River Camp can organize drives or guided walks in the Ruaha National Park (these need to be booked in advance in order to reserve the services of a national park ranger). If you're looking for an authentic, tented safari experience Mdonya is the place to go, well-away from some of the busier and better known East African parks.
