Mount Kilimanjaro Climbs
Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro with Aardvark and Hoopoe Safaris is an intimate, grand and breathtaking expedition. Towering above its surrounds at just under 20,000 feet, Kilimanjaro is Africa's tallest peak and a lifetime ambition for many to climb. In contrast to the standard routes where you might pass as many as 70 people on the track a day, we use the Lemosho route and you are likely to see nothing but your guides and the grandest scenery on earth.
We do not use the ordinary "coca-cola" routes, because these are overused and under maintained. But a big surprise for most potential climbers is that the most used route up Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Marangu Route, is actually more difficult than the longer, more beautiful routes that we do guide. Marangu's final ascent is via Gilman's point which is the furthest point on the rim from Uhuru Peak and the Marangu route descends down the same route it ascends.
All our Kilimanjaro climbs include a large staff with a chief guide, an assistant guide, cook, and porters. The camp is superbly outfitted, including thick foam mattresses for all the igloo tents, a toilet tent, tables and chairs, and high frequency two-way radios for communication with base.
