Jacana Safari Lodge overlooks a lake on the eastern border of Queen Elizabeth National Park (QENP) in the west of Uganda. The lodge is just inside a forest and black and white colobus monkeys play in the trees close to the bar and baboons are never far away.
Jacana Safari Lodge has just nine rooms, each overlooking the lake and with en-suite facilities. There is a main building with a bar beside the lake and a restaurant and lounge higher up. There is also a swimming pool and surrounding sun deck.
The national park close to the lodge has open savannah but few tracks. Most drives therefore take place about thirty minutes away on the network of tracks across the Kazinga Channel to the north of the main east-west road through the Park. In addition to large numbers of elephant and buffalo, there are many antelope including Ugandan kob, defassa waterbuck and bushbuck. Predators such as lion and leopard are spotted regularly and a total of twenty different predators are found in the Park. As well as game drives, boat cruises along the Kazinga channel are also possible on flat bottomed launches. A further game-viewing choice is a visit to Chambura Gorge which forms the border between the QENP and the Chambura Wildlife Reserve to its east. Here you have the chance to trek in the 16km long, 100m deep gorge to see chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys and red-tailed monkeys.
