Kaingo Camp
Kaingo Camp is beautifully located deep in the wilderness area of the South Luangwa National Park; here you will find some of the finest game viewing in Africa. The camp is owned by Derek and Juliet Shenton, who effortlessly run the place, creating a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Derek has worked in the Luangwa Valley for many years and his expert knowledge of the area and its wildlife, coupled with the remoteness of the site, makes every safari unique and exclusive. Kaingo Camp is nestled on the banks of the slowly meandering Luangwa River among large ebony trees. There are six well-ventilated chalets with private bathrooms, set discretely apart; the lighting is solar-powered and the rooms have mosquito nets around the beds and gauze windows. Daily life here tends to revolve around a large open-sided bar/dining "chitenge" with a lounge, well-stocked bar and a cozy campfire area. A special feature of the camp is a platform built out over the river where guests can view game coming down to drink. The meals are of a high standard and prepared using varied and fresh ingredients from the family farm. Activities available include day and night game drives, waking safaris, picnics and bush breakfasts. Wildlife viewing from secluded hides around the camp offer wonderful photographic opportunities. |
