Old Mondoro
Old Mondoro is nestled in the shade of a grove of acacia trees beside the mighty Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park. This is a beautiful spot near the Chakwenga River merge and overlooking a tangle of channels and hippo-inhabited islands. The emphasis here is on non-motorized activities, and the Old Mondoro guides aim to provide guests with an authentic safari which highlights the wildlife and bush experience. The camp accommodates eight guests in traditionally designed bush chalets which are rebuilt and then dismantled again for each safari season. The rooms at Old Mondoro have private facilities with flush toilets, washbasins and canvas bucket showers. There is an open adventurous feel about the camp during the day and then as evening falls, this becomes a cozy, relaxing retreat after an exciting day in the bush. Tasty meals are produced from a traditional bush kitchen which also bakes fresh bread daily. Close to Old Mondoro there are some excellent walks and this part of the Lower Zambezi National Park offers superb wildlife viewing. Guests often have sightings of lion, elephant and buffalo as well as frequent serval and leopard sightings. Plains game such as kudu and zebra are also regularly seen in the area.
