Elephant Safaris

The classic place to go on elephant-back safaris is Abu’s Camp in Botswana, where you’ll come to know the character and disposition of your own elephant as you explore the African bush at a gentle lumbering pace. This takes time and commitment however, so travellers who just wish to try the experience can head out on a day-long safari from Livingstone at the Victoria Falls, interacting with wild elephants and other game. It is also now possible to arrange elephant rides in South Africa.

For those interested in elephant but not especially concerned with using them as transport, there are a number of opportunities to get to know them individually (in Botswana) or participate in research projects (in Kenya). Long-lived and highly intelligent, elephant are great companions and well worth spending time on.
