Offbeat Safaris
Offbeat Safaris is proud to have Tristan Voorspuy, one of Africa’s top safari guides, leading guests on adventurous mobile riding safaris in remote wilderness areas. The two main regions in which he specializes are the Masai Mara, one of Africa’s most exciting wildlife areas, and Laikipia, boasting spectacular scenery with Mount Kenya as its backdrop. The well-trained thoroughbred and thoroughbred cross horses vary in size from 15hh to 16hh. They are versatile horses that are at their best when out on safari, ensuring a fit, tough and agile ride. Guests should be confident riders ready to spend between four to seven hours a day in the saddle. Riders need to be comfortable at all paces, just in case a horse must turn sharply or unexpectedly race to get out of trouble. The wildlife sightings are truly excellent: guests ride in the company of elephants, buffalo and lion,. Non-riders are welcome and can be accommodated with advance notice. The activities that can be enjoyed by both riders and non-riders include vehicle based day and night game drives, guided bush walks and long picnics. The camp accommodations on the mobile safaris in Laikipia or the Masai Mara consists of traditional safari-style green canvas tents. Each tent has an adjacent long drop toilet and there are a few shower tents housing safari-style bucket showers. Many of the safaris end at Deloraine (the Voorspuy’s family home), where you can choose to end your safari riding more and visiting other parks, or just relaxing. Either way, at Deloraine there is more of a house party atmosphere, a fitting end to your safari. Offbeat Safaris - Fact Box
