Sosian Riding
Sosian is set among stunning scenery and overlooks the snowcapped Mount Kenya. This old ranch house sits within the 24,000 acre working ranch on the Laikipia plateau. There are open plains to the north and dense scrublands to the south, and there is a variety of habitat here, supporting plenty of game with Grevy’s zebra, Grant’s gazelle, elephant and buffalo often seen. Cheetah, lion and wild dog have also been spotted in the area. The 12 horses are thoroughbred crosses, ranging from 13.2hh to 16hh. They are suitable for novice, intermediate and advanced riders, although riders must have enough experience to be able to canter out of trouble, if necessary. Rides usually last between one and three hours, but longer rides can be arranged. Though riding lessons are available, Sosian is not suitable for beginners due to the number of elephants nearby and the thick vegetation in some areas. For non-riders, there is a wide range of activities to choose from, including game drives, camel rides, swimming in rivers, walking, and bush dining. There are seven in-suite cottages, located in tropical garden scenery, home to an array of magnificent plants and birds. Each has been beautifully refurbished and provides an extremely comfortable feel. Sosian - Fact Box
