Climbing Kilimanjaro - Our Teams

Victoria at the summit - now she can call it KiliTraining day in ArushaPorter on KilimanjaroThe key to a successful Kilimanjaro climb is having a solid team of  knowledgeable experts to help in all aspects of the planning process.  We specialize in providing high quality professionals to coordinate your trip and help throughout your climb.

The Aardvark Kilimanjaro Team
We pride ourselves on the fact that we won’t suggest a trip unless one of us has actually experienced it firsthand. We have walked with the guides, ate the foods and slept at the camps. If you have any questions regarding the climb John, Alice, Lucinda, Francis, and Victoria, of the Aardvark Safaris team, would be more than happy to talk with you about their experiences climbing Kilimanjaro. These three individuals have successfully planned countless climbing trips for clients of varying age and fitness levels.  If you are looking for firsthand answers to any of your questions, we can provide all the information you need to ensure a safe and unforgettable Kilimanjaro climb.

The Africa Kilimanjaro Team
Experience can never be discounted, and throughout your climb on Kilimanjaro you will have a diligent, highly skilled team led by a head guide alongside assistant guides and camp crew and porters.  You can feel safe and secure knowing that we use the finest guides who are fully trained veterans to Kilimanjaro and all facets of Tanzania’s culture and life.  Just like any endeavor it’s the people who can make for a memorable and pleasing experience, and these exceptional individuals really provide for a fun, safe and rewarding climb.

Besides your climbing team looking after you, we also have a full operations team at our base playing an integral role during your climb.  Throughout your ascent of Kilimanjaro there will be one specific manager at our base providing comprehensive updates and communications twice a day to each group.  The purpose of the operations team is to supervise your climb from the base, check your performance and health (in addition to fellow crew members), and respond to help in a moments notice if needed.

Prior to every climb the operations team is also in charge of checking each item that goes onto Kilimanjaro and also ensures that everything is checked in, washed, dry cleaned and repaired upon return.

Porter Policy & Ethics
Our staff all benefit from regular, ongoing training in all aspects of their work, including the natural history and ecology of Mount Kilimanjaro and various additional subject matters that further expand their horizons.  We advocate and promote our staff to advance ones knowledge, strive for development, growth and advancement, and to look at their role as an opportunity for a rewarding long term career.  Each staff member is informed and involved throughout each phase of the trip and are very well paid.

Our mountain crew takes care of our clients, so we make it a priority to take care of them by providing access to good medical care both on and off the mountain, ensuring each is well clothed and equipped, and providing plenty of quality food and water.  To provide the best possible comfort to our porters’ on the mountain, we carefully pack and weigh each load prior to their climb, ensuring the load is within the limit set by Tanzania National Parks.

Ethics and environmental policies play a big part in our daily operations, as we work tirelessly to ensure our crews have the proper care and equipment and that they are well paid.  It is also important that the only imprint we leave behind on this beautiful mountain are our footprints from fellow climbers.  Although this may be the most cost effective way of doing business, it is the right way of doing business – taking care of our staff and the mountain to make sure that they are in the best possible condition to take care of our clients.

Safety, security and peace of mind for our clients and staff is of the utmost importance in all business dealings.  We do not look to be the cheapest Kilimanjaro climbing operator available, rather a quality operator that offers the highest quality of services at the best possible price.  We have a commitment to properly reward and care for our staff and to provide the least possible environmental impact possible on the mountain itself.
