Gorilla Census - Numbers are up!

A census of gorillas in the Virunga Massif, an area which covers gorilla parks in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo, has shown an increase in the population of 26% over the seven years since the last count.

The value of gorilla tourism in protecting gorillas cannot be underestimated; by giving them a value to local people through permits and tourist infrastructure, it is certainly an important part of the overall conservation programme.
