Horses and Horizons - Ride with Lucinda Green through Botswana’s extraordinary Makgadikgadi Salt Pans and Kalahari Desert

Lucinda Green, former world champion eventer and six time Badminton winner, will be hosting a riding holiday across the Makgadikgadi salt pans in Botswana from the 4th - 11th December 2011.

Bush Breakfast, Riding on Botswana's Makgadikgadi Salt Pans with Lucinda Green This fabulous safari has been put together by Uncharted Africa Safari Co. and David Foot safaris and offers the chance explore a wild, unspoilt area in the same manner as many of the earliest explorers, hunters and missionaries – on horseback. The landscape is truly exceptional, with vast pans, sprawling open woodlands and good ground which lends itself to an unforgettable riding experience. Until now riding safaris in Botswana have been primarily in the watery paradise that is the Okavango Delta, but this new holiday opens up a whole new world of habitat and scenery and is totally different to anything currently available.

You will ride through the ‘land of a thousand islands’, sand dunes stranded on an ancient lakebed covered by palm trees and considered to be one of the most beautiful areas in the Botswana wilderness. At the height of the migration season the islands and adjoining grasslands are awash with zebra, wildebeest, hartebeest and ostrich – and the attendant predators. Leaving the horses for the occasional game drive you can track the elusive brown hyena and search for one of the Kalahari’s most fascinating inhabitants, the meerkats. Following an on-going habituation programme it’s possible to get up close and personal with these captivating creatures, even have them use you as a lookout post while they survey the desert for danger.

Riding with Ludinda Green on Botswana's Makgadikgadi Salt Pans You spend two nights at Camp Kalahari where you will get to know your horse, then three nights fly camping on the Makgadikgadi Salt Plans before heading back to Camp Kalahari for your final two nights.
