 Stunning beach properties in Madagascar

The island of Madagascar some 400 miles off the east coast of Africa has wonderfully friendly people, large wilderness areas, intriguing cuisine and has enough flora and fauna to keep the most demanding naturalist satisfied. It also has a large number of little known but stunning beaches.

John’s most recent trip there confirmed that although it is still largely
undiscovered, a number of new properties have opened in the last couple of years. These are aimed at those wishing for some comfort with their adventure. Among the many options we would be delighted to talk through with you, a couple deserve a special mention:

You may have seen Joanna Lumley as a castaway on a desert island for television a couple of years ago. The island has now been sympathetically developed with a small number of comfortable beach cottages. Accessible only by seaplane, the setting, service and exclusivity of Tsarabanjina rival the best anywhere in the world.

Whale watching is probably most associated with small boats off Canada and grey blobs in the distance. Off Madagascar’s East Coast the humpback whales come into the warm shallow water to calve. The best time of year to see them is between June and October. Nearby Ile St Marie with its beautiful beaches and wide choice of accommodation makes an excellent base.
