Nuarro
Nuarro is a luxury eco-lodge situated in Memba Bay on the Baxio do Pinda peninsula in northern Mozambique.
The lodge is dotted along an 800m section of pristine coastline and is nestled in amongst lush vegetation
and overlooks the pretty crescent shaped bay.
Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge has 12 traditionally built chalets constructed from local materials and makuti roofs.
Each chalet offers spacious, comfortable accommodation and is decorated with splashes of colour using
locally printed material and hand crafted furniture giving the rooms a quirky feel. The rooms each
have an adjoining bathroom complete with an indoor and outdoor solar heated shower and a long drop loo
in keeping with the lodge’s eco ethics. The rooms are designed to take advantage of the sea breeze
and each room also has a large private verandah with views out to the Indian Ocean. The lodge has two
restaurants located at either end of the property; the beach bar and main restaurant. There is also
a curio shop and a well-equipped activities centre.
Wildlife & Activities
The emphasis at Nuarro is on the local environment and local people. Guests can enjoy kayaking
in nearby mangroves, mountain biking through neighbouring villages to an historic light house, sunset
dhow trips, visits to the villages of the friendly Macua people and massages. One of Nuarro’s most
unique features is the fantastic diving and snorkelling opportunities available straight from its beach.
The lodge’s proximity to the continental shelf gives divers the opportunity to see an abundance of reef
fish, soft and hard corals on the 80m drop off just a couple of hundred metres off the beach. As well
as, shore based diving there are many excellent dive sites in the area and the lodge has an on-site
PADI dive centre. Dolphin and whale watching is also possible from Nuarro; between mid-June and then
end of November Humpback whales are often spotted from the shore as they migrate north to give birth
to their young in the warm tropical waters. There is also an abundance of colourful birdlife within
the Nuarro private conservation area.
