Namibia Safaris

Hauntingly beautiful with great desert vistas under endlessly blue skies, a safari in Namibia’s harsh and untamed natural landscapes frees the spirit.

Game is good amongst the drum-flat salt-pans of the Etosha National Park but that is only part of a Namibia safari’s real attraction, which is to witness the battle of people, plants and animals to survive in an arid world. In this land of quiver trees and desert-adapted elephant there are countless highlights.

A classic circuit on a Namibia safari will take in the world’s largest sand dunes at Sossusvlei, the stark landscapes of the Namib-Nakluft desert, the remote wilderness regions of Kaokoland or Damaraland and the plentiful game that throngs the pans at Etosha. Look further still and you find the silent world of shipwrecks on the Skeleton Coast, the colourful plantlife of the Kalahari and the untouched communities of Himba people living a life unchanged over the ages in their Kunene Valley home.

Namibia Safaris - Travel Tips

  • Namibia never gets much rain and can be visited year-round, though its summer, from November to March, is hot.
  • Self drive trips and family safaris work well in Namibia as it has a good network of (mainly dirt) roads and many of the areas of interest are outside national parks. These can easily be visited without a guide.
  • For those on a tight timescale, Namibia has some excellent fly-in safaris taking in all the key areas.
  • Namibia safaris combine well with Botswana or South Africa.

Namibia Safaris - A Personal View

Victoria LangmeadI was totally oblivious, prior to my first visit, by the extent to which I would be captivated by this spectacular, sparsely populated country. Nothing I’d seen or read did anything to prepare me for its incredible beauty and wild remoteness.

I was mesmerised by the ever-changing colours and the cloudless blue skies. The sheer vastness, sense of space and endless horizons are a photographers dream. I climbed the vast Sossusvlei sand dunes, tracked desert adapted rhino and elephant in the harsh and remarkably inhospitable Kaokoland. I kayaked with Cape Fur Seals in the Atlantic and photographed the eerie shipwrecks strewn along the wild Skeleton Coast. Game highlights included driving myself through the game rich Etosha National Park and bird watching on the northern most Kunene River.

People want different things from their African adventure and I believe that Namibia, arguably more so than any other country we sell, has not just a bit but a lot of everything, to keep even the most regular visitor to Africa happy. I merely scratched the surface of what this captivating country has to offer and look forward returning so I can carry on exploring its unique wonders where I left off.
