South Africa Riding Safaris
South Africa offers riding safaris for all types of riders in many different styles. You can experience them from mobile set departures to wonderful luxurious lodges.
Families with younger children have many malaria free riding choices, and there are intensive camps for those who enjoy fast paced all day adventures.
If you are looking to relax why not ride along the coast or take a wine tour on horseback. There are even opportunities to play polo on some of the world’s great polo fields.
A South African Riding Safari – A Personal View
I thought my husband and horses wouldn’t mix – that’s until he spent a week in the saddle with Horizon Horseback Adventures in the Waterberg region of South Africa. With over 60 horses on offer to match all abilities, my husband was able to learn to ride on good safe horses in stunning African countryside
From Horizon you can ride out to view game (nothing dangerous - just herbivores), play polo cross or mounted games (gymkhanas for grown ups) and go on game drives in neighboring parks. The riding was excellent and varied and in a week we saw roan antelope, impala, giraffe, rhinos, springbok, eland, zebra, reedbuck, buffalo, flamingos.
The lodge is a real home from home, the hosts are welcoming but relaxed and there is nothing stuffy about Horizon. You can ride as much or as little as you like, or choose to enjoy a lovely pool and beautiful grounds.
I came away feeling that Horizon Horseback Adventures was the perfect place for any level of rider and any age of guest.
