Grootbos is a located in a coastal reserve with 2,500 acres of indigenous bush, and sweeping views of Walker Bay and is open year round.  Guests have the ability to horseback ride along the nearby hillside or on the sandy beaches.  Bicycle riding, boating, and walking are also available to explore the immediate area.  This has over 1000 indigenous flora where you can see small antelope and has the reputation for good sightings of whale , sharks, seals and dolphins.

There are about 17 highly trained Boerperd horses here, ranging from small ponies to 15.3 hh. Because of their calm nature they are perfect for all riding abilities.  The minimum outride age is Seven years old, although younger children may enjoy the pony rides.  Typical rides are less than 2 hours in the saddle and suitable for all riding ability.

Grootbos consists of two lodges nestled into a private reserve in the fynbos clad hills above Walker Bay close to Hermanus.  Either in Forest Lodge or the family friendly Garden Lodge, the cottages are built with locally hewn stone and timber and have adjoining bathrooms. From the Forest Lodge bar, guests can relax and view the picturesque sunsets across Walker Bay.  The restaurant specializes in seafood, and homegrown produce.
