Carl Schwinges offers you the chance to explore the Western Cape on horseback, focusing on the Culture, history, wildlife and natural environment of the Western Cape.  Carl’s tours take you on a journey through the Western Cape, taking in some of the highlights of this beautiful area and showing you a glimpse of the real South Africa.

The Riding
With Ride the Cape you have the opportunity to ride horses from many different stables and these horses are suited to whatever particular type of riding you are doing that day. A racing yard stable is used for the days you are riding on the beach so that guests can enjoy the speed of a thoroughbred on the wet sands. A stable of arab horses is used for riding in the Karoo desert, hardy boerperds are used for winding up the rugged mountains and warmblood hunters are used for exploring the farms and vin yards of the Western Cape. These tours aim to show you something different every day and look at the Western Cape as a whole rather than just focusing on the flora and fauna. Carl offers several different tours that run on a set departure basis: The wildflower trail which focuses on the wild flowers endemic to the Western Cape; The Grand Western Cape tour; The Hunting tour which gives you the opportunity to hunt with the Cape drag hunt; Polo tour and safari.  Carl is a European who has lived in the Cape for much of his life and has a wealth of knowledge about the history, culture and natural environment of the Western Cape that he is happy to share with you.

Accommodation & Facilities
Ride the Cape use the best local accommodation and guest houses during the course of the tour. Guests stay on small local farms and vineyards, gaining an insight into the life of the people who host you.
