Kichaka Expeditions

Owned and guided by Andrew (Moli) Molinaro, Kichaka Expeditions operate exclusive mobile walking safaris in the wilderness of southern Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park. There are several itinerary choices and each will be tailored to the clients’ wishes, to suit the season and the wildlife. Ruaha is Tanzania’s largest national park but very little of it is accessible by road, making Kichaka’s expeditions ideal for visiting large expanses of untouched wilderness.

Accommodation & Facilities
Kichaka Expeditions’ simple but very cosy camp has three walk-in safari tents each with an ablutions tent, a hot bucket shower, wash basin and a safari loo, making it easy to up-sticks and move to the next location. The beds, which can be arranged as twin or double, have excellent mattresses, and each tent has a spacious verandah at the front, an ideal spot to while away time between safari activities. There’s a spacious mess tent at the heart of the camp, with a large dining table, and plenty of comfortable sofas and bean bags to relax on. Moli’s partner, Noelle Herzog, looks after the camp and the catering, and her influence is to be found in every aspect of camp life.

Wildlife & Activities
Wildlife viewing with Kichaka is likely to be outstanding in any season, and with Moli’s incredible knowledge of the bush it’s like having a talking encyclopaedia alongside you. Walking safaris are the main activity at Kichaka, although game drives are offered where they are feasible. Ruaha sits on the divide between eastern and southern African biospheres and is renowned for its diversity of mammal and bird species.  Elephant, lion, buffalo, cheetah, spotted hyena, eland, greater and lesser kudu, topi, giraffe, zebra, warthog, hippo, crocodile can all be seen along with, occasionally, rare species such as wild dog, sable and roan antelope, and Lichtenstein’s hartebeest. Ruaha is also noted for its baobabs, as well as a large diversity of magnificent tree specimens.
