Lufupa Tented Camp
Lufupa Tented Camp is located in the northern sector of the acclaimed Kafue National Park, near the confluence of the Lufupa and Kafue rivers. This is a beautiful area filled with floodplains, lush riverine vegetation, broad-leaved woodlands and dambos (open grassy clearings). Lufupa Tented Camp is a small, traditional tented camp with just nine well-appointed canvas Meru style tents each with a private wooden deck on which to contemplate the wide river view and an adjoining bathroom. A relaxed central communal area, complete with a boma, fireplace, dining area and small plunge pool, lies on the banks of the wide Kafue River. Activities at Lufupa include day and night game drives, boat trips, fishing and guided bush walks all led by expert guides who are extremely knowledgeable about the area and its wildlife. For those interested in birding, the park boasts 491 species, including endemics such as Chaplin’s Barbet. The part of the Kafue, just south of the Busanga Plains, is home to hundreds of red lechwe, ubiquitous puku, stately roan and the diminutive oribi. Lichtenstein’s hartebeest, herds of wildebeest, zebra and buffalo make for a full set of antelope. This abundance of game is also a big attraction for predators, including wild dog, cheetah and prides of lion. The lush riverine vegetation along the Kafue and Lufupa rivers brings fantastic diversity to one’s experience of the Kafue National park.
