Kuyenda is a rustic and intimate camp in the southern part of South Luangwa National Park, near the
Manzi River. Part of the Bushcamp Company’s collection, this lovely camp sits beneath evergreen
mahoganies which provide welcome shade in the heat of the day. Its situation close to the river attracts
plenty of wildlife and allows for excellent sightings, without even leaving camp.
Accommodation & Facilities
There are just four rooms at Kuyenda, each privately located and constructed of timber, reed and
thatch. The rooms are very spacious and have great views across the grassy plain to the distant Chindeni
Hills. Every room has a large en-suite outdoor bathroom with a flush loo and a bucket shower. Ventilation
in the rooms is excellent thanks to the large front windows, which are screened to keep insects out,
and plenty of space between the roof and the rear walls. The camp is often hosted by Phil Berry, one
of Luangwa’s best known guides, and Babette Alfieri, who between them create the atmosphere of
a family home. Meals are usually eaten outside but there is also a large, comfortable, and airy mess
and lounge with open sides and a thatch roof.
Wildlife & Activities
Walking safaris are a big feature of a stay at Kuyenda. There is a wide variety of habitats close
to the camp, and guests can see superb wildlife while on foot here as well as learning much about the
wilderness and its residents. Walks can last for several hours, with one of the camps’ excellent
guides bringing the bush to life for guests. Day and night game drives are also possible and these offer
superb photographic opportunities.
