Botswana Safari Holidays in 10 Photos
Botswana is one of my favourite safari destinations, and regularly tops the ‘holiday destinations to visit’ list in the travel press.
Botswana safaris offer a glittering selection of wildlife, and an equally dazzling waterworld of the Okavango Delta. With such diverse wildlife areas, incredible and dramatic game viewing is guaranteed during any day on safari.
Botswana is also famous for having the most luxurious safari camps and lodges in the world. Not just with private plunge pools and vast verandahs to enjoy wildlife viewing during your sundowner G&T’s and gourmet dining, but the guides are some of the most professional and knowledgeable in Africa.
Here are my top 10 photos to tempt you to safari in Botswana.
The Okavango Delta
This green oasis, supporting a wealth of wildlife, is Botswana’s not-to-be-missed highlight. With the safari ‘Big 5’ of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, and much else besides, a Botswana safari is rarely complete without a few days here.

Riding Safaris
Splash through the Okavango Delta, explore the wide open spaces of the Makgadikgadi salt pans or track game in the remote Mashatu Reserve. Great horses, great guides and an exhilarating safari holiday for competent riders.

Wildlife
From aardvark to zebra, and pretty much everything in between, it’s all here on a Botswana safari. Rare wild dog roam the plains, elephant gather in huge herds, lion chase buffalo, and ferocious honey badgers chase anything! Colourful birds chatter from the sky while hippo and croc patrol the waterways.

Mokoro
These craft have been used by indigenous peoples for centuries and still provide a wonderful way to explore the myriad waterways of the Okavango Delta.

Family Safaris
This land of stunning contrasts has plenty to offer families on safari, from cute meerkats to specialist children’s guides. Private concessions and great flexibility for exploring by day and night make this an irresistible paradise for the ultimate family safari holiday.

Walking
Take a walk with the San Bushmen and learn how to catch a scorpion, track big game, and which twigs make the best toothbrushes. These remarkable people are gentle and fascinating guides and offer a unique glimpse into their ancient culture.
