Botswana’s Beautiful Lodges
Botswana’s wilderness areas are home to exceptional wildlife. No less exceptional are the safari camps and lodges you find there like the island lodge Kwetsani in the Okavango Delta. Here’s our selection of some of the best of Botswana’s beautiful lodges.
Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge – Eco chic
Situated on a private concession in the magnificent Okavango Delta, Sandibe boasts exclusive traversing rights over a vast stretch of land adjacent to the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve. Inspired by nature and celebrating its stunning setting, the lodge features beautiful architectural design, outstanding wildlife viewing and warm local hospitality.
Jack’s Camp – old world glory
This magnificent camp is a safari icon. Ten exquisitely furnished tents sit in a palm grove in the Makgadikgadi pans with sweeping views of this magical wilderness. Walk with San Bushmen guides, meet habituated meerkats, explore the pans by vehicle or on horseback, or simply enjoy the space and silence of an extraordinary landscape.
Selinda Explorer – expedition style
In the heart of the pristine 320,000 acre Selinda Reserve this intimate camp rekindles the magic of an expedition camp of safaris gone by. Accommodating just eight guests it’s in a wildlife hotspot and home to huge herds of elephant and buffalo. Lion, wild dog, sable and roan antelope are all spotted on a regular basis.
African Horseback Safaris – equine delight
Riding amid the wildlife of the Okavango Delta is a serious thrill for experienced riders. No less thrilling is the accommodation offered by African Horseback Safaris. The large airy tents, swimming pool deck and magical tree platform provide the perfect foil to an exhilarating day in the saddle.
Abu Camp – the original elephant experience
Luxury accommodation and impeccable service are beyond question here, but the main attraction of this lovely Delta camp is the Abu elephant herd. Guests can immerse themselves in the herd’s relaxed routine of eating, bathing, meditating and long walks in the bush, gaining a unique insight into the lives of these legendary creatures. It’s an extraordinary and profoundly touching experience.
Zarafa Dhow Suites – the ultimate in exclusivity
Anyone looking for privacy and exclusivity in a pristine wilderness setting will love this sumptuous camp. Take your nearest and dearest and you’ll enjoy stunning tented accommodation and dedicated staff. Explore the area and its prolific wildlife on foot or in a vehicle with your private guide. When water levels permit take a trip on the Zibadianja lagoon for a different perspective.
San Camp – stunning desert romance
Surely one of the most romantic camps in Africa, San Camp’s classic white tents sit on the edge of a sparkling white salt pan in the mysterious Makgadikgadi. Fabulously elegant with endless vistas of rolling golden grasslands, it is without compare.
Vumbura Plains – perfectly placed for Okavango wildlife
The luxurious suites here come with lovely views, indoor and outdoor showers, plunge pools and private salas. Leave these beautiful surroundings and you’ll find the camp’s location allows game viewing on both land and water all year round. The broad habitat mix means just about every species found in the Okavango Delta can be seen here, including excellent predator sightings from lion to wild dog.
Jacana Camp – island life
This lovely ‘water camp’, set on a remote island deep in the Okavango Delta, is a great spot to experience the Delta’s magic and mystique. The five tents, including a lovely family tent, are built on wooden platforms to make the most of the panoramic views. Glide silently through crystal clear channels on a traditional mokoro canoe spotting hippo, elephant and water-loving antelope species. The bird life is pretty good too.
Mashatu Main Camp – wild Africa
For the ultimate wilderness safari the Limpopo region of Botswana offers untouched Africa at its wildest and best. Here you’ll find the 29,000 hectare Mashatu Game Reserve and lovely Mashatu Main Camp. Pretty suites, lovely food, charismatic guides, beautiful landscapes, and wonderful wildlife – all in an area little touched by visitors – combine for an epic safari adventure.
And finally, forget the lodge, Africa awaits…
Botswana Explorer – glamping
Sometimes beauty is more about space and privacy than wall to wall luxury and that’s exactly what you’ll find on an &Beyond Expedition safari. Though the tents may be simple, the camp team will prepare delicious food to be enjoyed under the stars and your guides will lead you through some of Botswana’s most scenic and prolific wildlife areas. Just magical.
