Camp Hwange

A traditional, owner run bush camp in the heart of Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, Camp Hwange is situated in a 2,700 hectare private concession on the edge of a teak forest. From here, guests can enjoy excellent views of the open savannah in the largest national park in the country. Children from eight years are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
There are eight canvas and thatch chalets all overlooking a permanent waterhole. Each spacious chalet is solar powered and furnished with stylish simplicity with an en-suite bathroom with flush loo and solar operated hot water showers. Camp Hwange does not have a family chalet but there is a sleeper couch in each room which is suitable for a child under 14 years. So two adults and one child can sleep in each room making it a triple. Children under 14 years are required to share a room with an adult so parents and children need to be divided between tents accordingly.

The main lodge is large, open plan and thatched, and houses a lounge, dining area, well stocked bar and comfortable seating areas. To the front of the lodge is the camp fire, which forms a focal point for pre- and post-dinner drinks, and is where guests begin their day with coffee and a light breakfast.

Eating & Sleeping
Children are offered the standard meals or the chefs can tailor make meals according to the children’s preferences. If there are specific dietary requirements please request in advance to allow the kitchen to make the necessary purchases and plan the menu.
There are no childcare facilities so parents need to be responsible for their children at all times.

Wildlife & Activities
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s premier wildlife havens, Hwange is known as the ‘land of the giants’ due to its large elephant herds. Activities here revolve around wildlife viewing in open 4×4 vehicles and bush walks with the camp’s incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides. Days here are totally flexible and walks and drives are governed by the wildlife you see rather than mealtimes. Snacks and drinks are packed to make the most of each day and its adventures. Depending on the time of year, it is common to see vast herds of buffalo, lion, and elephant, and a stunning array of bird life. This camp provides great opportunities to approach large wildlife on foot for anyone over 12.

Specifically for children …
Although Camp Hwange warmly welcomes children from eight years, the camp does not offer specific activities for children. That said, the guides are dedicated to giving young guests the best experience possible by providing variety and adjusting activities according to interests and attention spans.
