Ellerman House and Villas

Ellerman House, once the summer residence of shipping magnate Sir John Ellerman and his wife, is today a small, luxurious hotel. This spacious Cape Edwardian mansion is situated in a prime location above Cape Town’s Bantry Bay with spectacular views of the striking coastline, the Atlantic Ocean and Robben Island.  Children over 14 years of age are welcome at Ellerman House and Villa Two, and children of all ages are welcome at Villa One.

Accommodation & Facilities
Private and exclusive, Ellerman House offers 13 rooms and suites, a tranquil spa and two ultra-modern exclusive use villas.  The accommodation options vary in terms of shape and size and have been individually and elegantly decorated.

Villa One has three spacious en-suite bedrooms (two with dressing rooms and private terraces) and the option of creating a five bedroom villa with the addition of two deluxe spa bedrooms. Additionally there is a formal lounge, TV lounge, dining room, study, spacious outdoor deck and infinity pool and a small reading room (which can be converted into a bedroom for children). The infinity pool is solar heated and has four steps into it, and seating all the way around. Lilos are provided! The maximum capacity at Villa One as a three bedroom is six people and as a five bedroom is 10 people. Children of all ages are welcome.   Villa Two has a maximum capacity of six people and has three bedrooms with open plan bathrooms and private terraces. There are open-plan living and dining rooms with an open-plan kitchen and generous outdoor terraces with a private infinity pool. Villa Two has a minimum age policy as there is a spiral staircase that is potentially hazardous to children under the age of 14 but children aged 10 and above may be considered on special request.

In true Relais and Chateaux style, the emphasis at Ellerman House is on providing guests with exceptional hospitality and cuisine. The owner is passionate about art so the recently opened Ellerman Contemporary Gallery has been built to showcase his impressive collection of work by South African artists, whilst other pieces in the collection adorn the property. The public areas include a bar, library, dining room, lounge, gym, swimming pool, terrace and lawns with views over Bantry Bay. The two stylish villas can accommodate up to ten guests are are idea for families or groups of friends travelling together.

Eating & Sleeping
Children’s meals can be prepared by the villa chef according to guest’s requests at a time to suit. Babysitting is provided by Super Sitters, a local agency, at an approximate cost of R110 per hour.

Activities
Ellerman House is a perfect base from which to explore Cape Town’s sights and local attractions. Alternatively guests may choose to relax in the grounds or read a book beside the pool.

Specifically for children …
• There is a selection of board games and lots of DVDs that can be watched in the villa’s cinema room.
• Family Urban & Table Mountain Tour – a fantastic action packed tour taking in all the sites and including paddle boarding, treasure hunt, picnic lunch and ending on Table Top Mountain – additional charge applies.
• The hotel can also arrange a wide range of activities depending on children’s interests and ages from visiting the planetarium, the aquarium and snake parks to Art Jamming, putt putt, Lazer tag and surfing.
